Ground Zero clean-up is High Reach Demolition Operation

It's  almost 2002, and many are going Christmas shopping. For the people working at Ground Zero there is no Christmas until ground zero is cleaned up. The estimated date this will be finished, is the end of 2002. To accomplish this companies are bringing in more equipment and personnel. For this large demolition operation large pieces of equipment are needed.
High Reach Demolition excavators are playing a meager role in the clean-up.
At this moment there are 8 machines present at the site.
Mazzocchi Wrecking has a Hitachi EX550 (38 mtr.) and a EX400 (28mtr.) at the site. Nacirema has the first ever build Cat 345BL UHD (26 mtr.) and a Cat 330 UHD (21 mtr.) at the site.
MCM and NADC both brought in their Cat 345 UHD (23 mtr.).  Foley Inc. Cat Rental delivered the Cat 350L UHD.
Many more are needed so Caterpillar's previously at Bauma introduced Cat 365BL UHD High Reach Demolition excavator will be shipped in from Europe.

Cat customers and dealers support NYC rescue and recovery

As of Thursday, Caterpillar contractor customers and their employees, along with more than 100 Caterpillar and dealer representatives, were working on site in New York city to support recovery and clean-up efforts. Twenty-five contractors working at the clean-up sites are Caterpillar dealer customers, providing both equipment and operator expertise. According to Curt Caughey of Caterpillar’s North American Commercial Division, trained operator assistance is paramount in the success of these efforts. “It is one thing to provide machines, but if there aren’t qualified operators available, the efforts will not be as effective,” he said. Twenty-five contractors working at the clean-up sites are Caterpillar dealer customers, providing both equipment and operator expertise. Caterpillar also delivered a 350 ultra-high excavator to the city. Caterpillar Finance owns this machine and has donated its use for the balance of the rescue operation. Nacirema industries Cat 345 ultra-high excavator is also coming to ground zero. This makes a total of 8 high reach demolition excavators currently working at ground zero.

High Reach Demolition at Ground Zero

"Whatever you saw on TV, it’s a hundred times worse in person," says a member of  Mazzocchi Wrecking. It was one of the first firms on the scene. Mazzocchi was already a certified city contractor and was brought in at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday by the New York City Housing Preservation Dept. We have, what we believe is the highest high-reach excavator in the country, a Hitachi 550 with a specially modified 38mtr. reach, and a 28mtr. high reach excavator on the site. Another N.J.-based demolition contractor, Seasons Contracting Corp. is also using an ultra high reach excavator with a 32mtr. reach. And many more are needed to clean up, what after 11 September is called, Ground Zero.
In Washington, D.C., Potts Callahan's High Reach Demolition excavator begins to chip away at the collapsed section of the Pentagon.
